Hi, I’m Angi!

A Little About Me

I’m Angi Nicole Black (she/her): a romance author, editor, and lifelong storyteller. I write love stories that are bold, character-driven, and emotionally grounded. I studied creative writing at LSU and have been playing with words since I figured out how to hold a pencil. In fourth grade, I even won a write-your-own-book contest, so, like Bill Murray in Caddyshack, I’ve got that going for me. Which is nice.

I’m also the founder of Editor Around The Corner, where I help authors refine their work with a sharp focus on structure, clarity, and voice. Writing and editing professionally means I understand the creative process from both sides of the page. My clients get thoughtful, detailed feedback from someone who truly knows how hard writing is—and how to make it better.

When I’m not immersed in manuscripts, you’ll find me teaching dance and theatre at Missouri State University. I make excellent baked goods, produce quirky art, and curate killer playlists. I’m a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community, a mom to grown kiddos I adore, and married to someone who makes me laugh every single day. Fair warning: I will absolutely break into show tunes without warning, and I make a stellar road-trip buddy.

I create because I know how. I edit because I know what works. The rest takes care of itself.

Why I Write

I believe good stories do more than entertain. They reveal. They dig beneath the easy answers and uncover the complicated truths we actually feel. I write with an emphasis on emotional honesty, sharp dialogue, and characters who are messy, real, and unforgettable. My philosophy is simple: tell the truth, even in fiction.

Readers don’t need perfect love stories. They need honest one. Like the kind where things get messy, timing is off, people hurt each other and then try again. I write about love not because it’s easy or ideal, but because it’s complicated and real. My stories make room for flawed people who want something true, even if they’re not sure how to ask for it. Love isn’t the prize at the end; it’s what you fight for, lose, rebuild, and choose again. That’s the kind of story I tell: not perfect love, but love that matters.

Send Me a Message!

I love hearing from readers. If you connected with a character, got wrecked by a plot twist, or just want to tell me which scene made you scream or swoon, I want to know. Hearing what landed, what lingered, and what made you stay up too late reading is one of my favorite parts of this job. Writing can sometimes feel quiet, but messages make it feel like a conversation.

If my stories made you feel something, I’d love to hear about it.
